Description

Precision-Calibrated Liquid Crystal Sheets are high-performance temperature-responsive sheets designed for accurate thermal visualisation, surface temperature mapping, and colour-changing analysis across defined temperature ranges.

Also described as liquid crystal temperature sheets or precision thermochromic temperature film for thermal mapping and specialist visual applications.

Supplied as standard with a factory-applied adhesive backing, these sheets are intended for direct application to suitable surfaces, making them suitable for both testing and permanent installation.

Available in selected sheet sizes, these calibrated liquid crystal materials display precise colour transitions across defined temperature ranges, allowing clear interpretation of surface temperature distribution in laboratory, engineering, product development, monitoring, and specialist display environments.

Typical uses include: thermal mapping, surface temperature analysis, airflow visualisation, product testing, monitoring, special effects, and R&D validation.

For applications where repeatable and interpretable colour response is important, these sheets provide defined Colour Play behaviour and known temperature bandwidth performance.

Choosing a Temperature Range

Our first three temperature ranges are the core options and are the most suitable starting point for many monitoring, development, and visualisation applications.

Not sure which temperature range you need?

Choosing the wrong range can result in weak or unusable colour response for your application.

Start with our 7-Sheet Liquid Crystal R&D Evaluation Pack to compare calibrated ranges before committing to a full-size sheet.

Includes £20 credit towards your full-size sheet purchase.

£20 credit is issued per evaluation pack purchase and may be used once against a full-size sheet order.

Recommended for first-time users and for applications where the exact operating temperature is not yet confirmed.

Available Sheet Sizes

  • 450 × 300 mm — Recommended for uninterrupted surface coverage and professional applications
  • 300 × 225 mm — Suitable for smaller test areas and limited installations
  • 225 × 150 mm — Useful for evaluation, demonstration, and smaller-scale applications

Reduced sizes are precision cut from full-size calibrated material. For best continuity of coverage, the 450 × 300 mm sheet is recommended.

Available Temperature Ranges

Core Ranges (Stock Items — all three sizes available):

  • 20–25 °C
  • 25–30 °C
  • 30–35 °C

Extended Ranges:

  • 29–33 °C — Currently available from stock in all three sizes
  • 35–36 °C — Custom order (contact us)
  • 35–40 °C — Custom order (contact us)
  • 40–45 °C — Custom order (contact us)

35–36°C, 35–40°C, and 40–45°C ranges are supplied as full sheets (450 × 300 mm) only, with a minimum order quantity. Please contact us to confirm suitability, lead time, and availability.

Approximate Fahrenheit equivalents: 20–25°C = 68–77°F, 25–30°C = 77–86°F, 30–35°C = 86–95°F, 29–33°C = 84–91°F, 35–36°C = 95–97°F, 35–40°C = 95–104°F, 40–45°C = 104–113°F.

Adhesive Backing

Full-size sheets are supplied with a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing as standard, allowing direct application to clean, smooth surfaces for stable and repeatable thermal readings.

Non-adhesive versions are also available on request for applications requiring temporary placement, repositioning, or integration into assemblies.

Understanding the Colour Change

Liquid crystal sheets display a reversible colour change across a defined temperature bandwidth. As the surface temperature moves through the active range, the material transitions through visible colours that can be used to interpret relative temperature distribution.

Important Notes

  • Colour response may vary depending on lighting, viewing angle, and surface condition
  • Handle carefully to avoid creasing or damage to the active layer
  • For best results, apply to a clean, smooth, dry surface
