This pigment is made from microbeads of solid soda-lime glass.

Close up, these microbeads appear as glass microspheres. This material is commonly used in 'cat's eyes' that separate the lanes of a highway (motorway) in the dark. You may also recognise this effect from the grey strips that are seen on high visibility vests.

The beads have a particle size of between 35-50µm. The 95% sphericity of these microbeads allows for an even particle distribution with a uniform and bright reflection that can be achieved when a light source is directed at the beads.

Use as an additive in water and solvent-based systems including clear varnishes, paint or print binders.

Originally, more than a hundred years ago - glass microspheres was used as a coating applied cinema screens. After being mixed with a clear medium, it was applied to the screen material. The reflective properties of the pigment enabled the film being projected shone more brightly on screen.

Glass microspheres are now adaptable to many industriesL fashion, space, automotive, marine, road markings, health & safety, military, fashion, screen printing inks, paints, print and design,

Mix 10-20% pigment with a clear binder. Some binders may tarnish the reflective properties of the beads so; please test a small amount with your chosen medium before mixing a large batch.
