What are Liquid Crystals?
Liquid crystals are a unique state of matter that exhibit properties of both liquids and solids. They flow like liquids but have molecules arranged in a structured way, similar to crystals. This molecular structure allows liquid crystals to respond to changes in temperature by altering their colour. In thermochromic thermometer strips, microscopic capsules containing liquid crystals are used. As the temperature changes, the liquid crystals within these capsules change their molecular arrangement, reflecting different wavelengths of light and causing a visible colour change. This provides a precise and visually clear indication of the temperature.
