What are Liquid Crystal Thermometer Strips?

Liquid crystal thermometer strips are temperature-sensitive films that change colour in response to heat. These thin, flexible strips are coated with a layer of liquid crystals that exhibit a unique property: their molecular structure alters with temperature fluctuations, leading to a visible colour change. They are adhesive backed for easy application and are compatible with a wide range of substrates including paper, card, and plastics.   

How do they work?

The colour change is driven by the liquid crystals' ability to reflect light differently at different temperatures. As the temperature rises, the liquid crystals align themselves in a way that reflects shorter wavelengths of light, causing the strip to shift towards the blue end of the spectrum. Conversely, as the temperature drops, the crystals reconfigure to reflect longer wavelengths, resulting in a shift towards the red end of the spectrum.
