Automated Selection Support: RFID indicators must be matched to your shipment's mass and volume to ensure accurate gate-reads. View the ShockWatch 2 Selection Grid.

SpotSee® ShockWatch® 2 RFID – Automated Impact Monitoring (100 Pack)

ShockWatch® 2 RFID Shock Indicators provide clear, tamper-evident evidence of excessive impact. By combining physical monitoring with an integrated passive UHF RFID tag, these units allow for instantaneous digital logging of mishandled shipments as they pass through automated gates.

Official SpotSee® Technical Data

Selection Tip: use the sensitivity selection grid on page 7 to match G-level to your shipment size and weight. Full specifications, response curves and reader configuration are also included.

Advanced Automated Traceability

  • Digital State Change: Upon activation, the RFID chip’s memory bank updates its status. Your WMS/ERP system can automatically flag "Alarm" units during a bulk scan.
  • Passive UHF Technology: Battery-free operation using ISO 18000-6 / EPC Gen 2 protocol. Works with existing handheld or fixed gate readers.
  • Gate-Read Efficiency: Scan pallets without requiring line-of-sight. Achievable read range depends on reader power, antenna configuration and pallet density.
  • Tamperproof and Serialised: Single-use, armable, with a visual green to red change backing up the digital record.

ShockWatch® 2 RFID – Frequently Asked Questions

What does ShockWatch 2 RFID do?

ShockWatch 2 RFID combines a physical impact indicator with a passive UHF RFID tag. When the device activates due to excessive shock, the RFID memory updates, allowing automated systems to detect mishandled shipments during scanning.

How does the RFID function work?

If the indicator is triggered, the RFID chip changes state. When your pallet or carton passes through a fixed gate or handheld reader, the system automatically flags the unit as “Alarm” without requiring visual inspection. Readers are configured to read bit 512 in the standard EPC memory bank; full sample configuration is in the technical data sheet above.

Do I still get a visual impact indicator?

Yes. The indicator changes from green to red on activation, so a shipment can be checked by eye as well as by a reader. Note this differs from the standard ShockWatch 2, which changes from clear to red. The RFID feature adds digital traceability on top of the physical indication.

What G‑level should I choose for ShockWatch 2 RFID?

Use the same G‑level selection rules as standard ShockWatch 2. Lower G‑levels suit fragile goods, while higher G‑levels are used for robust or well‑protected items. The selection grid on page 7 of the technical data sheet matches shipment size and weight to a G-level.

What is the operating temperature range?

−25°C to 60°C. This is narrower than the standard ShockWatch 2, which is rated to 80°C, so check it against your own storage and transit conditions.

Does ShockWatch 2 RFID require batteries?

No. It uses passive UHF EPC Gen 2 technology, meaning it is completely battery‑free and powered by the reader’s interrogation signal.

How far away can ShockWatch 2 RFID be scanned?

Read range depends on reader power, antenna configuration and pallet density, so it is best confirmed against your own equipment. Line‑of‑sight is not required.

Which systems can read ShockWatch 2 RFID?

Any ISO 18000-6 / EPC Gen 2‑compatible RFID infrastructure can read the tags, including most warehouse management systems, handheld scanners, and fixed gate readers.

What is the shelf life?

Two years from date of manufacture when stored at 20°C, 1 ATM.

Does ShockWatch 2 RFID reduce mishandling?

Yes. The combination of a visible impact indicator and automated digital logging significantly increases accountability and reduces rough handling throughout the supply chain.
