TiltWatch XTR – When to Use the Single-Plane Tilt Indicator
The TiltWatch® XTR is SpotSee's most widely used tilt indicator. It gives a clear, irreversible visual alert when a shipment has been tilted past 80°, helping prevent damage to products that must remain upright during transport and handling.
Unlike impact indicators such as ShockWatch 2, the TiltWatch XTR does not detect drops or shocks. It monitors tilt and orientation, making it right for goods that must stay vertical.
What is the TiltWatch XTR?
A single-use, tamperproof tilt indicator that activates when the package is tilted beyond 80° (80° ±5° from vertical). Once activated the indicator turns red and cannot be reset, giving clear evidence of improper handling. Each unit carries a serialised barcode.
It monitors a single plane, and does not show the direction or the degree of tilt. The patented design means it is unaffected by movement from normal handling conditions, random vibrations or aircraft take-offs.

TiltWatch XTR QR – the version with a QR code
TiltWatch XTR QR is the same indicator with a QR code added to its face. The recipient can scan it with any smartphone camera, with no app and no account, to check the indicator's condition on arrival and capture an image of it. Each unit also has a unique serial number printed on the face, so an indicator can be tied to a specific consignment.
SpotSee issue one Cloud registration code per 100-unit box, and that code registers all 100 sensors to a single SpotSee Cloud account, so Cloud dashboard registration comes with the 100 pack. A 10 pack does not include it, though its indicators still scan as described above.
When to use the TiltWatch XTR
It suits products that must remain upright to avoid damage, leakage, misalignment or safety risks. Typical applications include:
- Appliances and white goods — refrigerators, freezers, washing machines, dishwashers
- Industrial and mechanical equipment — pumps, compressors, motors, HVAC units
- Medical and laboratory equipment — imaging devices, optical systems, calibration-sensitive instruments
- Products containing liquids, which can be damaged or contaminated if tilted
- Tall or top-heavy items at risk of tipping or internal shifting

When tilt monitoring is not enough
Some shipments need both. TiltWatch XTR is often paired with ShockWatch 2 QR for carton-level impact monitoring, so you cover both orientation and impact.

Fitting best practice
- Apply to a clean, flat, rigid surface such as a crate corner or reinforced carton wall
- Hold the indicator upright and keep the package upright as you apply it
- Removing the adhesive backing arms the indicator, so arming and applying are one action
- Use a companion label so handlers can see the shipment is monitored — companion labels are sold separately on rolls of 200 and 500, including multilingual versions
