ShockWatch Label – When to Use the Adhesive Impact Indicator
ShockWatch® Label is one of the simplest and most widely used impact indicators in global supply chains. Built around SpotSee's proven tube technology, the Label provides a clear, irreversible visual alert when a shipment has been exposed to potentially damaging impact. Its low cost, ease of use, and high visibility make it a powerful deterrent against mishandling.
This article explains what ShockWatch Label does, how it works, and when it's the right choice for your shipments.
What Is ShockWatch Label?
ShockWatch Label is a single-use, tamperproof impact indicator available in five sensitivities: 25G, 37G, 50G, 75G, and 100G. When an impact exceeds the selected threshold, the indicator turns bright red, providing clear evidence of mishandling.
Importantly, ShockWatch Label is manufactured in an always-live state. The device is active from the moment it leaves the factory, meaning it begins monitoring as soon as it is applied to a package. Because it cannot be armed or disarmed, Labels must be handled carefully during storage and transport to avoid premature activation before they reach your packing line.
How ShockWatch Label Works
The Label uses a proprietary glass tube filled with a reactive liquid. When the shipment experiences an impact above the selected G-level, the liquid travels into the activation chamber and permanently turns red.
Key behaviours include:
- Always live – no arming required
- Irreversible activation – once red, it cannot be reset
- Highly visible – acts as a deterrent to mishandling
- Available in five sensitivities – 25G to 100G
- Low-cost, single-use – ideal for high-volume shipments
When to Use ShockWatch Label
ShockWatch Label is best suited for products that need a simple, cost-effective way to detect rough handling. It's ideal for:
1. High-volume shipments
- Consumer electronics
- Small appliances
- Retail goods
- General manufacturing
2. Products sensitive to drops or impacts
- Medical devices
- Laboratory equipment
- Optical components
- Precision instruments
3. Shipments where visibility reduces mishandling
The bright red "HANDLE WITH CARE" framing label increases awareness and encourages better handling throughout the supply chain.
4. Cost-sensitive monitoring
ShockWatch Label is one of the most economical impact indicators available, making it ideal for large-scale deployment.
ShockWatch Label vs ShockWatch 2
| Feature | ShockWatch Label | ShockWatch 2 |
|---|---|---|
| Activation Method | Always live | Field-armable |
| Sensitivity Range | 25G–100G | 5G–75G |
| False Activation Protection | Lower | Higher |
| Best For | High-volume, cost-sensitive shipments | Higher-value or more fragile goods |
Installation Best Practices
To ensure accurate performance:
- Mount on a clean, dry surface
- Place in the lower third of the package
