ShockDot – What to Use Instead
ShockDot® was SpotSee's entry-level impact indicator: a simple, low-cost way to detect mishandling in transit. A mechanically activated dot turned red when an impact exceeded the selected G-level, giving clear, irreversible evidence of rough handling. It suited high-volume or cost-sensitive shipments where basic impact monitoring was enough.
SpotSee have discontinued ShockDot, and we no longer supply it. If your packing procedure still specifies it, this guide sets out what to use in its place. As an authorised SpotSee partner, Good Life Innovations can help you make the change.
What ShockDot was
A single-use, tamperproof impact indicator in four sensitivities — 25G, 50G, 75G and 100G. It was always live, so it began monitoring as soon as it was applied, and it was orientation-independent, which made it forgiving in unpredictable handling environments. Its window measured 0.1 in².
What to use instead
ShockWatch Label QR — the closest match
A thin adhesive label, live as soon as it is applied, with no arming step. Thresholds of 25G, 37G, 50G, 75G and 100G, so the range you used on ShockDot is covered. The QR version adds a code the recipient can scan with a smartphone on arrival to check the indicator's condition. Note that ShockWatch Label is orientation-dependent, where ShockDot was not, so pay attention to how it is applied.

ShockWatch 2 QR — where arming matters
A housed, field-armable device: it stays inactive until you arm it and apply it when you are ready to ship, which prevents false activations during storage, packing and palletisation. Seven sensitivities from 5G to 75G, so finer thresholds than ShockDot offered, with a QR code on every indicator. This is the right choice for fragile or high-value goods, and it is the version SpotSee now supply in the ShockWatch 2 range.

If your procedure still names ShockDot
Two practical points when you change over:
- Check the threshold you actually need. ShockDot started at 25G. If your goods are more delicate than that suggests, ShockWatch 2 QR reaches down to 5G, and the lower thresholds may suit them better.
- Check how the indicator is applied. ShockDot did not care which way up it went. Both replacements are orientation-dependent, so the fitting instructions matter.
Still have ShockDot in stock?
Existing stock remains usable — discontinuation affects supply, not the indicators you already hold. For new deployments, use a currently supported product so you can reorder consistently.
