Is your water too hot? The Energy Saving Trust recommend that your cylinder thermostat should be set at 60°C/140°F. Save on your Boiler/Heating Costs. Great little reusable device for setting the hot water heater/boiler for maximum efficiency and lessen the danger of tap water scalding. For each 10F reduction in water temperature, you can save between 3%-5% in heating costs. Don't let your hot water become too hot and risk scalding you, the elderly, or your baby or child. It also helps keep an eye on your heating costs. The Consumere Safety Commission recommends a lower setting. PLEASE NOTE: This is not suitable to be used as a bath thermometer. water temperature at 120F to reduce probability of scalding. THE HOT WATER GAUGE 1) Insert the bottom of this card into a cup of hot water. (Run water for 3 to 5 minutes.) 2) If a number appears and it is: Green - that is the temperature of the water BLUE - the temperature is more than that number. TAN - the temperature is less than that number. BLACK WITHIN THE RED SQUARE - the temperature is 65C or more. 3) If no change occurs, the water temperature is under 50. 4) For most uses 50C to 55C should be adequate. If yours is hotter, turn down your water heater thermostat to save money, and lessen the danger of tap water scalds. Please note: Consumer Product Safety Commission is based in the US.
