ShockWatch Flex – When to Use the Flexible Surface-Mounted Impact Indicator

The ShockWatch® Flex is a surface-mounted impact indicator designed specifically for products with curved, uneven, or irregular surfaces. Unlike the standard ShockWatch Clip or MiniClip, the Flex uses a bendable housing that conforms to the shape of the product, ensuring secure mounting and accurate impact detection even when the surface is not flat.

As an authorised SpotSee partner, Good Life Innovations helps manufacturers and logistics teams choose the right Flex sensitivity and integrate it into their quality-control and handling processes.

What Is the ShockWatch Flex?

The ShockWatch Flex is a single-use mechanical impact indicator that attaches directly to the product. It contains a sealed glass tube that activates when an impact exceeds the selected G-level, permanently turning red to indicate mishandling.

The flexible housing allows the indicator to be mounted on surfaces where a rigid Clip or MiniClip would not sit correctly.

How the Flex Works

The Flex uses SpotSee’s proven reactive-liquid tube technology:

  • A sealed tube contains a reactive liquid
  • When an impact exceeds the rated threshold, the liquid moves into the activation chamber
  • The indicator permanently turns red
  • The activation cannot be reset or reversed

This provides a tamperproof record of mishandling that stays with the product throughout its lifecycle.

When to Use the ShockWatch Flex

The Flex is ideal when you need on-product impact monitoring but the mounting surface is not flat. Typical applications include:

1. Curved or cylindrical equipment

  • Pipes and tubing
  • Cylindrical housings
  • Medical devices with rounded casings
  • Portable instruments with ergonomic shapes

2. Irregular or textured surfaces

The flexible housing conforms to uneven surfaces for secure mounting.

3. Products that are unpacked and repacked

  • Rental equipment
  • Service and repair items
  • Calibration-critical instruments

4. Situations requiring tamperproof evidence

Because the Flex is mounted directly to the product, it cannot be removed or replaced without detection.

Flex vs Clip vs MiniClip

All three devices use the same internal tube technology, but their mounting requirements differ:

Feature ShockWatch Clip ShockWatch MiniClip ShockWatch Flex
Surface Type Flat surfaces Flat surfaces (small footprint) Curved or irregular surfaces
Size Standard Compact Flexible housing
Best For Medium to large equipment Small devices Curved or uneven products

Need an embedded version?

If you need an impact indicator that mounts inside the product, see the ShockWatch Tube – When to Use the Embedded Impact Indicator.

Installation Best Practices

To ensure accurate performance:

  • Mount on a rigid area of the curved surface
  • Ensure full contact between the Flex housing and the product
  • Select the correct sensitivity based on product fragility
  • Use secure adhesive or mounting hardware as recommended

Benefits of Using the ShockWatch Flex

  • Flexible housing for curved or irregular surfaces
  • Provides on-product impact monitoring
  • Highly tamper-resistant
  • Ideal for ergonomic or cylindrical equipment
  • Clear, irreversible evidence of mishandling

Is the ShockWatch Flex Right for Your Application?

Choose the Flex if you need a surface-mounted impact indicator that can conform to curved, uneven, or irregular surfaces.

Good Life Innovations, as a SpotSee partner, can help you select the right sensitivity and integrate ShockWatch Flex into your manufacturing or logistics workflow.
