TiltWatch XTR vs TiltWatch Plus – Which Tilt Indicator Should You Use?
Tilt indicators help prevent damage by showing when a shipment has been tilted or laid on its side. SpotSee make two main options — TiltWatch XTR and TiltWatch Plus — and while they look similar, they answer different questions.
This guide explains the differences in plain language so you can choose the right tilt indicator for your shipment. As a SpotSee partner, Good Life Innovations helps businesses across the UK select the correct tilt monitoring solution for their packaging and logistics workflows.
What both indicators have in common
- Detect tilt and orientation changes
- Clear, irreversible activation — they cannot be reset
- Single-use and tamperproof
- Mount on the outside of the packaging
- Armed by removing the adhesive backing, so arming and applying are one action
- Carry a serialised barcode
The difference is how much detail you want about the tilt event.
TiltWatch XTR – simple “was it tilted?” monitoring
TiltWatch XTR activates when a shipment is tilted past 80° (80° ±5° from vertical). It gives a simple pass or fail: the product was either kept upright or it was not. It monitors a single plane and does not show the direction or the degree of tilt.
Best for: appliances, machinery, and products that must remain upright but are not sensitive to smaller tilt angles.
- One activation point, greater than 80°
- Clear, irreversible red indication
- Steel disc mechanism in a rigid polystyrene housing
- Operating temperature −40°C to +60°C; humidity 5% to 99% non-condensing
- Ideal for general upright monitoring
TiltWatch XTR QR is the same device with a QR code added, so the recipient can scan it on arrival with any smartphone camera to check its condition. Each unit also carries a serial number printed on the face.
TiltWatch Plus – “how far, and which way?” monitoring
TiltWatch Plus is a different device, using glass balls rather than a steel disc. It shows whether there was a tilt to the left or the right, the degree of the tilt, and whether a complete overturn has occurred. Its activation angles start at 30° and rise in 10° increments to 90°.
Best for: precision equipment, liquid-filled systems, and products where even moderate tilt can cause damage.
- Shows the degree of tilt, not just that it happened
- Indicates tilt direction, left or right
- Includes an inversion indicator for complete overturn
- Supplied with a companion label
- Ideal for sensitive or calibration-critical products

Which one should you choose?
- Choose TiltWatch XTR if you only need to know whether the product was tipped beyond a safe limit — or TiltWatch XTR QR if you also want the recipient to be able to scan and check the indicator on arrival.
- Choose TiltWatch Plus if you need to know how far it tilted, in which direction, and whether it was overturned.
