This thermosmart® thermal conductivity set comprises four metal bars held together and in parallel with a plastic rigid carrier. The metals are copper, aluminium, brass and steel. The thermochromic liquid crystal used in the conductivity bars shows temperatures in the range of 35ºC to 45ºC. The lowest temperature indication is a coppery red colour at 33ºC and the hottest is a blue colour at over 45ºC. The 35ºC to 45ºC range is at the outer limits of the green zone. Download Brochure USE: Suspend over freshly boiled water in a 250ml beaker. Do not reheat the water - it must be below boiling point. Immerse bar ends only - do not immerse plastic cradle. Store away from direct sunlight. The conductivity of the four metals differs markedly and a plot of the distance travelled by the coloured zone in the thermochromic liquid crystal film against time gives a set of lines, whose slope is approximately proportional to the conductivity of the metals.
